Excitement Peaks as Akii Bua Memorial Championship Approaches

The Akii Bua Memorial Championship is organized annually in honor of the late John Akii Bua, a former police officer born in Abako Sub-county in Alebtong District. He won Uganda’s first Olympic Gold medal at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Berlin, setting a new world record that had been set four years earlier.

The 23rd Akii Bua Memorial Championship is set to take place on Saturday, 7th June 2025, at Mandela National Stadium, beginning exactly at 7:00 am. Over 145 participants have registered to participate, of which 120 are elite professional athletes, both national and international.
